Electoral Politics and Party Identity
Obamas election would not change the need but i don't think its necessary to have a 3rd party for black people. It may be necessary but still it would give us crutch up and give other races of people more reason to complain about politics. If we did get a 3rd party for us would we actually be given the things we need and ask for? Would the government take it seriously? I can't forsee that as a positive thing for our people. How would it work, what would we be doing in the sense of what problems would be getting solved and not just talked about. I also think that it could possibly begin to divide our nation and make it more like times before.
Still on the Obama Watch
Obama an his wife seen together is great for the black community. Yes it important to be poitical figures, but a good mother and father is just as if not more important as his politcal famous stature. As a role between man and women it shows how they both still have their careers and take care of their business as well. The role of men is to be the bread winner and Obama is doing that as a black man and thats important for other black men to see and a good symbol to follow. His wife is carries herself in a strong way and instead of being in the back she is by the side of Obama, portrays herself as a loving mother. All of these are importabd because it helps eliminate the stereotypes about black men and women not being good parents and children not having both parents around.

Personally, hearing about all the places the President has gone to, makes him human. Just because he doesn't stay in the White House 24/7 won't change how good of a President he is or will grow to be. Going out and appearing places is showing how good he can connect with the public, so yes it would be good politics,if gas is so much let him be one of the many people driving around and spending money on gas. In going to the Bulls game people got excited to know he was there, Im sure many people will enjoy telling the story of when the First Black President of the United States went to a Bulls game they attended, or when he practiced with the Tar heels of North Carolina. Overall getting to be seen by our public allows people to see how you act and evalutate you as a person so this could be a way of getting votes down the for the ext election.

I Am Definitely an Obama Girl
There is no question that Obama and his family have been a huge positive for black families in America. To me it is as though the Fresh Prince has come alive in President Obama. He is a black man in power with a black woman not behind him but by his side with their children there portraying an image that has never been seen in my generation. Its everything about Obama that makes us as a people feel right at home with him, whether it be how he handles himself so smooth like Denzel in a debate or questions from the media... or the way he takes time to have funa nd play basketball with the UNC Tar Heels. Obama not only portrays a strong black family but also showing others that it is possible to be a strong black man with a strong black woman and have a loving family in the public eye.
Thinking More about African American Society and Culture
I have experienced all three of these positive institutions, and all provide a great sense of belonging and positivity. The church gives Black people a sense of spirituality in a sense that everything happens for a reason and what you do when no one is watching is just as important as when everyone else is around. HBCU's and greek organizations is a great tool in leading our young black youth in the right direction and making them feel as though they are apart of something special. The leaders of all three, the church, greek life and HBCU's help the youth in broading their minds and opening doors for a better life by not only educating but also by creating job opportunites. A great positive that these institues possess is that they all remind and teach us about where we have come from and how to improve our situation as a whole, and as far as racism... it will always exist and the only thing to do is to use these sources as a positive and overcome something that all blacks have to go through at some point their life.
Making Privilege and Power Visible
I think that it is true to a certain extent that black women do not have a name for themselves. Only because some of our beautiful African American females choose to shake they a** in videos and put up with being called h** and B****. In no way shape or form do I condone this behavior, but in our society today black males lead the charge in disrepecting our black women so how can we as a people strive for and want change for black women if we don't practice the change ourselves. In my daily life I see more black women than white posing half naked in videos and portraying a image that does not exist. As the stereotype grows about black women having huge butts and a** shakers I see in our young female youth the same thing I see on television... and that is special inappropriate dances and booty poppin while the parents of these children cheer them on as if nothing is wrong. Black women have come a long way from caring for their white masters chidren and caring for their houoseholds, but somewhere in the evolution of black women something went wrong and exploitation of their beautiful bodies is the new thing to do and be apart of in order to have fun and live life.

The Historymakers
Some of the men that were interviewed said that even thought they went through a very hard time in their life that it was worth the opportunites created fro their children. Also by what they encountered and experienced opened the door to things they never thought could be possible such as being owners, ceo's, and witnessing the birth of many organizations that were created to further the progress of African Americans as a whole.
Is Barack Obama an African American?
The idea of black people's thoughts and activities are one in the same when it comes to self naming and racial identification. If we were not given such names and identified as we are then we would not have the strength and knowledge of where we have come from. An with that knowledge of our heritage we as a people can continue to grow and thrive.
For some people there seems to be a difference between black people and African Americans, but to me we are all the same. If you are a person of color then you are African American. We were brought here as a people an thus expanded so self naming to me is irrelevant. Since our President has a parent of color that makes him an African American hands down.
